About Seville Cathedral

The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built during the 15th and 16th centuries over the former Almohad main mosque, of which the Giralda and the Patio de los Naranjos still remain.

Inside it holds the Main Altarpiece —the largest in Christendom— and the tomb of Christopher Columbus, as well as works by Murillo, Zurbarán and Goya.

The Giralda, the mosque's former minaret, became the cathedral's bell tower. Its 104 metres are climbed via 35 ramps once designed to be ridden on horseback, and the top offers the best panorama of Seville.

The whole site can be visited at a relaxed pace in about an hour and a half. Booking a time slot is the usual way to skip the queues, especially in spring and the summer months.
